Venue Details for North Pier Blackpool
North Pier was the first of Blackpool´s three piers to be built. It opened on 21st May 1863 and attracted 20,000 visitors to view the opening ceremony. It was designed by Eugenius Birch and was the second pier he designed, the first being Margate. It was one of the very first piers to be built using Birche´s screw pile process which gave the pier a solid foundation. Today the pier has two entertainment venues at the seaward end there is the North Pier Theatre, which is an unassuming building on the outside and a minimalistic Art Deco style interior. The theatre has the capacity for 1500. The second venue is at the land end of the Pier, this is the Merry England bar. During the Season this hosts some great shows with Joey Blower and great acts. Each year a talent show takes place and the winner is given the opportunity to be the star act for the following year.
